Dubai Police Catch Drivers Using Two Phones and Reading Newspapers While Driving
Dubai Police have used their advanced smart traffic cameras to catch drivers engaging in dangerous distracted driving behaviors. Among the recent violations captured, one female motorist was seen using two phones at once, holding both devices to her ears while driving, completely taking her hands off the wheel. In another instance, a driver was spotted reading a newspaper while on the road, which not only distracted her but also blocked her view of the traffic.
The smart cameras, part of Dubai’s commitment to road safety, are equipped with cutting-edge technology that can detect various violations, even when vehicles have heavily tinted windshields. The cameras can identify distracted driving, such as using mobile phones, not wearing seat belts, and other dangerous behaviors.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasized that these high-tech systems are designed to promote road safety, enhance security, and effectively enforce traffic regulations. He also reminded motorists that serious violations, such as using mobile phones while driving or tailgating, could result in vehicle impoundment for up to 30 days, in addition to fines ranging from Dh400 to Dh1,000 and four black points.
Dubai Police continue to invest in smart traffic technologies as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to become a global leader in road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities.
