Diplomatic Tensions Rise as Canada Expels Six Indian Diplomats Over Criminal Allegations

Montreal – Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly has announced that the remaining Indian diplomats in Canada are now on notice, emphasizing that any criminal activity on Canadian soil will not be tolerated.

At a press conference in Montreal, Joly stated that evidence suggests the Indian government has employed criminals to carry out illicit activities in Canada, particularly implicating Sikh separatists. She highlighted that there are serious threats against Canadian citizens, including incidents of extortion and murder, linked to these activities.

“The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has taken extraordinary measures to publicize these facts due to the real threats faced by our citizens,” Joly remarked, adding that the involvement of Indian agents and diplomats in these crimes is particularly concerning. “We have never seen anything like this in our history. This level of external aggression on Canadian soil can never happen.”

Prior to this warning, Canada had already expelled six Indian diplomats, with the Canadian National Police Force stating that there was admissible evidence of killings and extortion carried out by agents under orders from New Delhi. Among those expelled was the Indian High Commissioner, who was named a person of interest in the murder of Canadian citizen and Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nagar in British Columbia on June 18, 2023.

In response to Canada’s actions, India has rejected these allegations and subsequently ordered six Canadian diplomats to leave the country. This escalating diplomatic tension highlights a significant rift between the two nations amid serious accusations and counter-accusations.
