Death Sentences for Four in Iran Linked to Mossad’s Role in Fakhrizadeh Killing

A revolutionary court in northwestern Iran has sentenced four people to death on charges of espionage for Israel, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

Three of the defendants were accused of assisting Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency in the 2020 assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was considered by the West to be behind Iran’s covert nuclear weapons program—a claim Iran has consistently denied.

The assassination, which took place in November 2020, involved a one-ton gun smuggled into Iran in pieces, allegedly orchestrated by Mossad agents. Israel has never confirmed its involvement in the operation.

The fourth defendant, whose identity and connection to the case were not disclosed, was sentenced for involvement in another espionage-related matter.

In response to the sentencing, an Israeli government spokesperson reiterated that Israel does not comment on such matters.
