China Sentences Ex-Officer to Death for Leaking State Secrets to Foreign Agency
Beijing: China’s Ministry of State Security has sentenced a former official to death for providing state secrets to a foreign intelligence agency.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, the official, identified as Zheng, was a member of a highly classified group within the state agency. After leaving his position, Zheng provided sensitive information to foreign spies, posing a serious threat to China’s national security.
The Ministry stated that Zheng was lured by foreign intelligence agents with promises of financial incentives and was coerced into becoming a double agent, handing over personal items, including a USB drive. However, the Ministry did not specify which foreign intelligence agency received the information or the nature of the secrets provided.
This case is the latest in a series of espionage accusations exchanged between China and Western countries, as both sides continue to accuse each other of espionage activities.
