Cassius, World’s Largest Captive Crocodile, Dies at 110

Cassius, the largest crocodile in captivity, has passed away at the age of over 110. The massive 5.48-meter (18 ft) saltwater crocodile had been in declining health at Marineland Melanesia, a wildlife sanctuary in Australia.

Weighing more than one ton, Cassius lived at the sanctuary on Green Island, near Cairns, since 1987. The sanctuary shared their sadness on social media, saying, “Cassius will be deeply missed, but our love and memories of him will stay with us forever.”

Cassius held the Guinness World Records title for the largest captive crocodile, earning the title after the death of another famous crocodile, Lolong, in 2013.
