California Confirms First Clade I Mpox Case in the U.S.

November 16, 2024: California has confirmed the first case of clade I mpox in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Saturday. The infected individual, who had recently traveled from Eastern Africa, was diagnosed after returning to the U.S. and was treated at a local medical facility before being released.

The CDC confirmed that the case is linked to the clade I strain, which is different from the more common strain circulating in other regions. Health authorities are monitoring the situation, but no widespread concerns have been raised at this point.
