BCCI Offers Hybrid Model for 2025 Champions Trophy, Promises to Cover Losses
The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has suggested a hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy, after India refused to play in Pakistan. They have promised the International Cricket Council (ICC) that they will cover any financial losses caused by India’s absence.
India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the tournament led the ICC to ask for an explanation. The ICC said India not participating could cause a loss of $50 million. In response, BCCI proposed holding some matches in Pakistan and others at neutral venues, offering to make up for any financial losses.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it clear they don’t agree with the hybrid model. According to ICC rules, the schedule must be confirmed by November 20, or the ICC could face legal issues.
The ICC had planned to announce the schedule soon, but the ongoing disagreement between Pakistan and India has delayed this. PCB had already written to the ICC, explaining Pakistan’s position on the matter.
Pakistan is set to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, with matches scheduled in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi from February 19 to March 19, 2025. India has not played in Pakistan since 2008, and there have been no bilateral series between the two countries since 2013.
Pakistan, the defending champions, won the last Champions Trophy in 2017, under captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.
