Bashar al-Assad’s $2 Billion Empire and Moscow Refuge Revealed

In a major political development, Syria’s deposed president Bashar al-Assad, along with his wife Asma and their three adult children, has left the Syrian presidential palaces and sought political asylum in Russia. This move comes after direct intervention from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who granted asylum to the Assad family.

🟢 Assad Family’s New Life in Russia

Reports suggest that Bashar al-Assad and his family will begin a new chapter of their lives in Russia. The Kremlin has confirmed that the asylum was granted under the direct order of President Putin. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declined to provide further details about the Assad family’s current location, stating, “We have nothing to say about Assad’s whereabouts.”

🟢 Who is Asma al-Assad?

Asma al-Assad, Bashar’s wife, was born in London and holds British citizenship. She comes from a family of medical professionals and is known for her taste for luxury and opulence. Over the years, Asma’s lavish lifestyle has drawn criticism, especially since she was married to the president of a war-torn country.

According to reports, Asma al-Assad spent large sums on luxury clothing, jewelry, and furniture. In 2012, WikiLeaks revealed that she spent $350,000 on palace furniture and $7,000 on crystal-encrusted shoes. Despite her image as a style icon, she has been criticized for her extravagant spending while millions of Syrians were suffering due to civil war and poverty.

Asma is also known to be battling an aggressive form of leukemia. Reports indicate that she arrived in Moscow with her daughter and two sons a few days before Bashar al-Assad officially fled Syria.

🟢 Assad Family’s Wealth and Assets

  • Net Worth: The Assad family’s wealth is estimated at $2 billion.
  • Hidden Wealth: Their fortune is concealed in offshore accounts, shell companies, and extensive real estate portfolios.
  • Luxury Properties: In recent years, they have purchased at least 20 apartments in Moscow worth more than £30 million ($38 million), indicating that Russia had already been prepared as a safe haven for the family.
  • Global Real Estate: The Assad family also owns several luxury apartments in London’s prestigious City of Capitals Complex, which was once Europe’s tallest skyscraper before the opening of The Shard in 2012.

🟢 The Children of Bashar al-Assad

The Assad family includes three children:

  • Hafez al-Assad (24 years old)
  • Zein al-Assad (22 years old)
  • Karim al-Assad (21 years old)

It is still unclear if the family will reside in private property or be housed in a government safe house in Russia. Given the properties the family owns in Moscow, they have the option of living a life of relative luxury.
