Australia’s Most Decorated Olympian Emma McKeon Announces Retirement

Emma McKeon, Australia’s most decorated Olympian, has announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 30. The legendary athlete’s illustrious career includes 14 Olympic medals across three Games and 20 medals at World Championships.

A Record-Breaking Journey

McKeon first tasted Olympic success at Rio 2016, winning gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay along with two silvers and a bronze. Her standout performance came at the Tokyo 2021 Games, where she claimed seven medals, including gold in the 100m and 50m freestyle, setting a record for the most medals won by an athlete at a single Olympics.

Beyond the Olympics, McKeon was part of relay teams that set eight world records, three of which still stand today, and earned five world titles throughout her career.

Farewell to the Pool

In a heartfelt statement, McKeon expressed her gratitude for the sport that shaped her life.

“I will definitely miss it… It’s brought me great relationships and shaped me into the person I am. But I’m ready for the next part of my life, which I’m excited for.”
