Aubameyang’s Goal Stuns Al-Nassr as Al-Qadsia Triumph 2-1
Riyadh, Nov 22, 2024 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang delivered a crucial blow to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr title hopes, scoring the decisive goal as Al-Qadsia defeated Al-Nassr 2-1 on Friday. The victory saw the newly-promoted Al-Qadsia move level with Al-Nassr on 22 points in the Saudi Pro League standings.
Ronaldo had given Al-Nassr the lead in the 32nd minute after the goalkeeper spilled a free-kick, allowing the Portuguese star to score his seventh league goal of the season. However, Al-Qadsia equalized just before the break when Julian Quinones converted a cross from Turki Al-Ammar into the bottom corner.
The second half brought more frustration for Al-Nassr. In the 50th minute, Nahitan Nandez’s cross to the far post was headed back across goal by Quinones, setting up Aubameyang for a close-range header that put Al-Qadsia ahead.
Al-Nassr fought hard to find an equalizer but were unable to break through, leaving them with a tough task in their chase for the title. Meanwhile, Al-Hilal, who currently lead the league, could extend their advantage to nine points if they defeat Al-Khaleej on Saturday.
In other Friday action, Al-Ahli secured a 1-0 win at Al-Feiha, with Riyad Mahrez converting a 21st-minute penalty, and Al-Shabab drew 1-1 at Al-Okhdood to remain in fourth place. Al-Hilal can extend their lead further with a win, while Al-Ittihad, just a point behind, will play Al-Fateh on Sunday.
