Amazon Pledges $1 Million for Donald Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony
Global online shopping giant Amazon has announced a donation of $1 million for the inauguration ceremony of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to reports, major tech companies are attempting to improve relations with the incoming president, inspired by the actions of Elon Musk.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that Amazon will also stream Trump’s inauguration ceremony on its Prime Video service.
Previously, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced a $1 million donation for Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
The news of Amazon’s donation was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. It followed an announcement that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos would meet with Trump next week.
The relationship between the two figures has been strained in the past. During Trump’s first term, he criticized both Amazon and The Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos. In response, Bezos criticized Trump’s remarks.
In 2019, Amazon filed a lawsuit claiming that Trump’s bias had negatively affected its chances of securing a $10 billion contract with the Pentagon. Later, the Biden administration sought to strike deals with both Amazon and Microsoft.
Recently, Jeff Bezos has adopted a conciliatory tone. During an event in New York, he stated that he was “hopeful” about Trump’s second term.
Stephen Miller, who has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff for Trump’s second term, stated that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, like other business leaders, is looking to support Trump’s economic plans.
After strained relations with Trump, Zuckerberg is reportedly working to improve his company’s image. Following the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Trump’s Facebook account was suspended. The company reinstated his account in early 2023.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Zuckerberg did not endorse any candidate, but he has expressed positive views toward Trump.
