Peru’s: Former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo has been sentenced to 20 and a half years in prison for his involvement in a bribery scandal. The court found him guilty of accepting $3.5 million in bribes from a Brazilian construction company, significantly impacting the country’s political landscape.
Toledo, who served as president from 2001 to 2006, was accused of colluding with the company to facilitate corrupt contracts during his administration. Upon hearing the sentence, Toledo, who is reportedly battling cancer, appealed to the court to allow him to serve his time at home, citing health concerns.
