AI Competition in Riyadh Aims to Boost Arabic Language Technology

RIYADH: The Allam Challenge finals are taking place in Riyadh, bringing together tech experts from 17 countries to improve Arabic language technology. The event is hosted at the Crowne Plaza in Digital City and will end on Saturday. It is organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones, with support from IBM and the National Technology Development Program.

The challenge offers a prize pool of SR1 million ($260,000) and focuses on developing AI solutions for Arabic language tasks. These include composing and analyzing Arabic poetry, performing complex grammar analysis, and creating language learning tools for children.

More than 50 mentors and 40 judges, including AI and Arabic language experts, are helping the teams improve their projects. The goal is to develop sustainable AI solutions that can be used in real-world applications to promote the Arabic language across different sectors.
