Aaqib Javed Prioritizes ODIs and Champions Trophy, Plans Changes in T20Is
Pakistan’s interim white-ball coach, Aaqib Javed, has outlined his focus on One Day International (ODI) cricket and the upcoming Champions Trophy during his tenure. Speaking ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe, which starts on November 24, Javed emphasized the importance of having a “settled team” for ODIs while planning to test bench strength in T20Is.
Aaqib also confirmed that new players will be given opportunities in the T20 series, highlighting the need to build a strong squad for the future. “If you don’t give new players chances, you’ll never improve your bench strength,” he said.
The former fast bowler also addressed his dual role as part of the selection committee, emphasizing a collaborative approach to decision-making. Aaqib expressed confidence in the selection process and welcomed constructive criticism as part of the coaching role.
The tour, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is in Bulawayo, marks the beginning of Aaqib Javed’s interim tenure, with the goal of preparing the team for the upcoming Champions Trophy next year.
