Supreme Court Issues Clarification to Assist ECP in Reserved Seats Implementation

Islamabad, October 17 – Eight judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan have issued a second clarification regarding the decision on reserved seats, following a request from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). This new clarification comes as part of ongoing deliberations to ensure clarity and consistency in the interpretation of the ruling on the allocation of reserved seats in legislative bodies.

The Election Commission had sought further clarification from the apex court to avoid any ambiguities in the implementation of the decision, which affects the distribution of reserved seats for women and minorities in the assemblies.

The Supreme Court judges have reiterated the legal framework governing the reserved seats and have addressed concerns raised by the ECP. This move is seen as an effort to ensure transparency and smooth functioning of the electoral process.

The case is expected to have further developments as the Election Commission continues to work on aligning its procedures with the court’s directives.
