Canadian Resident Arrested for Allegedly Plotting ISIS-Backed Attack on New York Jews

A 20-year-old Pakistani man living in Canada has been taken into custody for allegedly planning a terrorist attack on Jewish individuals in New York City, the US Department of Justice announced on Wednesday.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, was arrested in the town of Ormus, just 19 kilometers from the US-Canada border, on charges filed in the United States. According to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Khan aimed to kill as many Jews as possible in the name of ISIS, with a planned mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn on October 7.

The plot was uncovered through conversations between Khan and undercover law enforcement officers, who posed as co-conspirators. The Justice Department credited the FBI’s investigative work and swift action by Canadian law enforcement for preventing the attack.

Khan faces charges of attempting to provide support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted. The US plans to seek his extradition from Canada.
