Meta to End WhatsApp Support for Older Android Phones
Meta has announced its decision to discontinue WhatsApp support for older Android devices starting January 1, 2025. If you’re using a 10-year-old Android phone, it might be time to upgrade as WhatsApp will no longer function on such devices.
Key Details:
- WhatsApp will cease to work on phones running Android KitKat or earlier versions from January 2025.
- The decision comes as WhatsApp introduces new features that are compatible with the latest iOS and Android operating systems, making older systems obsolete.

Precaution for Users:
- If you own an old smartphone, it’s advisable to transfer your WhatsApp data to a new device before January 1, 2025.
- After this date, all media and chat history on unsupported devices will be permanently deleted.
iPhone Users Beware:
Meta had earlier announced a similar decision for older iPhones. Starting May 2025, WhatsApp will only function on iPhones running iOS 15.1 or later.
