US House of Representatives Approves Spending Bill After Third Vote
After multiple failed attempts, the US House of Representatives has finally approved the government’s spending bill in its third vote, averting a potential government shutdown at midnight.
Voting Results
According to US media reports, 366 members voted in favor of the bill, while 34 opposed it. The bill will now proceed to the Senate for final approval.
Key Provisions of the Bill
- $100 billion allocated for disaster relief funds through March 2025.
- $10 billion designated for farmers.
Government Shutdown Threat Averted
If the bill had been rejected, all federal agencies would have run out of funds and ceased operations at midnight, leading to a complete government shutdown.
Bipartisan Agreement
Despite political differences, both Republicans and Democrats warned that allowing a government shutdown would have been a grave mistake. Leaders from both parties had been working on an interim budget package to ensure federal agencies remain funded through March 14, 2025.
This development marks a significant step in maintaining the stability of the US government and economy, with the focus now shifting to the Senate for its approval of the bill.
