Australian Teen Gout Gout Sets Fourth-Fastest 100m Record in Under-18 History
Australian teenage athlete Gout Gout has made headlines by setting the fourth-fastest 100m time in under-18 history. Competing at the All Schools Athletics Championship in Queensland, Gout completed the race in a blistering 10.04 seconds. Critics and analysts are already drawing comparisons between Gout and legendary sprinter Usain Bolt.
Although the race benefited from tailwinds and therefore does not qualify as an official record, it is still the fourth-fastest time ever recorded by any Australian sprinter, regardless of age.
The fastest time ever recorded in the under-18 category is 9.99 seconds, achieved by American sprinter Erriyon Knighton in 2021. He is followed by compatriot Jalani Watkins and Thai sprinter Puripol Boonson, both clocking 10.02 seconds in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
In the final of the All Schools Tournament, under standard wind conditions, Gout officially clocked a time of 10.17 seconds, marking the sixth-fastest record in under-18 history. This also broke the previous Australian under-18 record of 10.27 seconds, held by Sebastien Sultana.
Gout first made waves in 2022 when, at just 14 years old, he ran the 100m in 10.57 seconds. His performance continued to improve, and in August 2024, he further cemented his status as a rising star. Competing in the World Athletics U20 Championship, he ran the 200m in 20.60 seconds — 0.01 seconds faster than Usain Bolt’s record at the same age in 2002.
Gout is now set to compete in the 200m event at Queensland’s All Schools Athletics Championship, with fans and analysts eagerly awaiting another show-stopping performance.
