KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur Declares PTI Protest Ongoing, Awaits Imran Khan’s Decision

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has reaffirmed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest is still ongoing, stating that only party founder Imran Khan has the authority to conclude it.

PTI’s Struggle and Alleged Suppression

Addressing a press conference in Mansehra on Wednesday, Gandapur alleged that PTI has been subjected to severe oppression. He cited baseless cases against party members and noted the imprisonment of both Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

“Our party has faced coercion. Despite this, we remain peaceful and committed to upholding the Constitution,” he said.

Midnight Crackdown and Criticism

In the early hours of Wednesday, PTI announced a “temporary suspension” of its Islamabad protest after law enforcement cracked down on demonstrators, dispersing them. The protest, which began on November 24, was described as a “do-or-die” effort by the party.

In response, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar mocked the PTI’s efforts, calling the suspension a “colossal failure” and labeling Gandapur “Ali Amin Bhagoora (deserter).”

The protests reportedly led to fatalities on both sides. PTI claims that eight of its members were killed, while government officials reported the deaths of three Rangers personnel and two police officers.

Criticism from Within

PTI leader Shaukat Yousafzai expressed disappointment over the abrupt suspension of the protest. Speaking on Geo Pakistan, he criticized the party leadership for a lack of clear guidance, which, he claimed, disheartened many supporters.

Allegations of Injustice and Violence

Gandapur condemned the government for suppressing PTI’s activities. He stated that the party had been denied permission for rallies and accused courts of failing to deliver justice.

The chief minister also addressed the violence during the protests. “We announced a peaceful protest, but several of our workers were martyred, and hundreds were injured. Why were we met with violence when we remained peaceful?” he questioned.

He claimed that if PTI workers retaliated, it was only in response to the violence inflicted upon them. Gandapur further alleged personal attacks against him, including an abduction attempt and a failed assassination bid.

Financial Support for Victims

Gandapur announced financial compensation of Rs. 10 million for each family of PTI workers killed during the protests. “We will hold those responsible for the violence accountable,” he said.

Commitment to the Cause

Concluding his address, Gandapur reaffirmed PTI’s resolve. “This province knows how to claim its mandate and rights. The nation cannot be enslaved through bullets and violence,” he asserted, emphasizing that the sit-in would continue under Imran Khan’s directives.
