Six Killed as Protests Demand Release of Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan

Islamabad, November 26, 2024 — Violence erupted in Pakistan’s capital on Tuesday as thousands of supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan stormed the city, demanding his release. The protests, led by Khan’s wife, saw clashes between security forces and demonstrators that left at least six people dead, including four paramilitary soldiers.

The protesters, who made their way to the edge of Islamabad’s highly secured red zone, were met with resistance from hundreds of security personnel. Khan’s wife, who was at the forefront of the demonstrations, was pushed back by the authorities as the standoff intensified.

The protests are part of a growing movement calling for the release of Khan, who has been in jail for months following his conviction on corruption charges. The situation has further strained tensions between the Pakistani government, its military supporters, and Khan’s political faction.
