Deadliest Israeli Strike in Beirut’s Basta Fawqa Neighbourhood Claims 29 Lives
Beirut, Lebanon – November 25, 2024 – A devastating Israeli airstrike in central Beirut has left at least 29 people dead, including several children, marking the deadliest bombing of the city in over a year. The strike hit the densely populated Basta Fawqa neighbourhood just before dawn on Saturday, reducing buildings to rubble and sparking widespread devastation.
As the search for survivors continues, local residents, like seamstress Laila Amayrad, are left to mourn their losses. Amayrad, who stood amidst the charred remains of her home, hoped that the bulldozers sifting through the wreckage would recover the bodies of her friends. “I just want them to find my friends,” she said through tears, as emergency teams continued their grim task.
The strike has caused immense damage to the community, with families grappling with the aftermath of the tragic loss of life. The bombing is the latest chapter in the ongoing violence that has escalated in the region, with residents in Beirut and other parts of Lebanon bearing the brunt of the conflict.
The Israeli military has yet to comment on the attack, but it comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing airstrikes across the region. The international community has expressed concern over the rising civilian toll in the conflict, and calls for an immediate ceasefire continue to grow louder.
As recovery efforts continue, the people of Beirut are left to face the painful reality of rebuilding their lives after one of the city’s deadliest assaults in recent memory.
