Pope Francis to Visit Corsica for First Time

VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis will make his first-ever visit to Corsica on December 15, the Vatican announced. The visit to the French Mediterranean island’s capital, Ajaccio, will see the Pope speak at a conference on popular religiosity in the Mediterranean region.

This trip will mark his 47th foreign visit since becoming pope in 2013. Corsica, known for its rugged terrain and as the birthplace of Napoleon, is one of France’s poorest regions, with nearly 20% of its population living below the poverty line.
