Modi’s BJP and Allies Set to Win Rebound Victory in Maharashtra Elections
New Delhi, Nov 23, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies are poised to return to power in Maharashtra, India’s wealthiest state, marking a significant political rebound for the Hindu-nationalist leader following a disappointing general election.
In the state elections held in Maharashtra, home to India’s financial capital, Mumbai, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is leading in 221 out of 288 seats, according to local media reports. In contrast, the opposition Congress party and its allies are currently leading in 55 seats.
The result represents a major victory for Modi’s party, signaling strong support in one of India’s most economically influential regions. This success is expected to provide a boost to the BJP as it looks to solidify its political presence across the country.
