Israeli Airstrike Hits Central Beirut, At Least Four Killed
Beirut, Nov 23, 2024 – A powerful Israeli airstrike struck central Beirut on Saturday, targeting the Basta neighborhood as Israel continued its offensive against Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group. The blast caused widespread devastation in the Lebanese capital, resulting in at least four deaths and 23 injuries, according to Hezbollah’s al-Manar broadcaster, which cited the Lebanese health ministry.
The National News Agency reported that the airstrike destroyed an eight-story building and caused significant damage to surrounding structures. Footage aired by Lebanon’s Al Jadeed station showed scenes of destruction, with buildings reduced to rubble and others severely damaged.
This attack marks the latest escalation in Israel’s military campaign against Hezbollah, which has been ongoing as tensions continue to rise in the region. The conflict has led to growing concerns over civilian casualties and the broader humanitarian impact on Lebanon.
