Indian Commandos Kill 10 Maoist Rebels in Chhattisgarh Firefight
RAIPUR, India, November 22, 2024 – Indian security forces killed 10 Maoist rebels in a firefight on Friday in Chhattisgarh, a stronghold of the Naxalite insurgency. Police recovered several automatic weapons from the rebels, part of the Maoist movement fighting for the rights of marginalized Indigenous people.
This marks another significant strike in India’s intensified crackdown on the insurgency, which has claimed over 10,000 lives. More than 200 rebels have been killed this year alone, most in Chhattisgarh. The government continues to battle the Maoists in the “Red Corridor,” an area that has shrunk considerably in recent years due to security efforts and infrastructure development.
