Australia Stumbles to 67-7 After Bumrah’s Devastating Spell in First Test
Jasprit Bumrah single-handedly turned the tide for India in the first Test against Australia, claiming seven wickets in a thrilling final session on Friday. After being bowled out for just 150, India found themselves in a commanding position, with Australia struggling at 67-7 by the close of Day 1.
Bumrah’s devastating spell included figures of 4-17, as he demolished the Australian top order. Despite a promising 19* from Alex Carey and 6* from Mitchell Starc, the hosts are in dire straits heading into the second day.
Australia’s batting crumbled under the pressure of India’s lethal pace attack, led by Josh Hazlewood (4-29). India’s lower order, including Nitish Kumar Reddy (41) and Rishabh Pant (37), fought hard, but the star-studded top order, including Virat Kohli, faltered once again. Kohli’s poor run continued as he was dismissed for just five, adding to questions about his place in the team.
Bumrah led the charge in India’s comeback, dismissing key Australian players, including Usman Khawaja (8) and Steve Smith (lbw). Harshit Rana claimed his first Test wicket, cleaning up Travis Head (11), and Mohammed Siraj followed up with the dismissal of Mitchell Marsh (5).
