Female teacher sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexual misconduct with 14-year-old student
Maryland USA: A female teacher in the US state of Maryland has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for repeatedly having sex with a 14-year-old student.
According to media reports, the court has sentenced the female teacher to 30 years in prison and suspended the 29-year sentence. Therefore, instead of spending the full 30 years in prison, Melissa Curtis will only have to serve one year in prison. However, after her release, she will be under close supervision for the next 5 years to monitor her behavior.
After her release, Melissa will be registered as a ‘sex offender’ and will not be allowed to have solitary contact with teenage other than her own children.
The female teacher was indicted on November 7 last year for having sex with a teenage student.
According to the police, the incident began when Melissa Curtis started an ‘after-school program’ that the teenage student joined, after which there were several occasions when the two of them were alone in the classroom.
The investigation also revealed that the female teacher had repeatedly provided the teenage student with alcohol and drugs, leading to addiction. Melissa Curtis taught at that school for about 2 years, after which she joined another school.
The truth came to light when the victim approached the police himself in October 2023 to complain of sexual abuse against him, after which the police started an investigation.
