Angry Farmers Block Access to Bordeaux Port to Pressure French Government
Paris, November 21, 2024 – A group of protesting farmers in southwestern France blocked all access roads to the port of Bordeaux on Thursday, escalating a wave of agricultural protests. The farmers, driving tractors, targeted the key port that connects Bordeaux to the Atlantic Ocean via the Garonne River.
Jose Perez, a local representative from the Coordination Rurale union, confirmed the blockade, which aims to put additional pressure on the French government as anger over agricultural issues intensifies in the country, Europe’s largest crop producer. The protests reflect growing frustration among farmers over various economic and policy challenges affecting the agricultural sector.
