Spain to Legalize 300,000 Undocumented Migrants Annually
Spain has announced a plan to legalize about 300,000 undocumented migrants each year, starting in May 2024 and continuing through 2027. The policy aims to address labor shortages and support the country’s aging population. Migrants will be able to obtain work permits and residency under the new measures.
The government hopes this initiative will help reduce exploitation in low-paid jobs and strengthen Spain’s economy, which has benefited from immigration. The plan also extends job-seeking visas from three months to one year, offering migrants additional labor protections.
Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, views this policy as essential to tackling the country’s low birthrate and maintaining its welfare state.
