Action Urged Against Hospital Officials After 25 HIV Cases at Dialysis Center
Multan: In light of the recent discovery of 25 HIV-positive patients at Nishtar Hospital’s Dialysis Center, a government committee has completed its inquiry into the matter and has recommended action against the head of the hospital and the dialysis center. The committee also holds other staff members at the center responsible for negligence, and action against them is pending final approval.
According to sources, the incident began when a 40-year-old patient, who had been undergoing dialysis at Nishtar Hospital previously, was brought into the emergency department last month in October. During dialysis, the patient tragically passed away, and it was later discovered that the patient was HIV-positive.
The fatality occurred on October 11, and following the revelation about the patient’s HIV status, a screening of all registered patients at the dialysis center was initiated. By November 9, the AIDS Control Program had screened 220 patients, with 25 diagnosed as HIV-positive, including 10 women.
The committee’s recommendation for action follows growing concerns about safety protocols at the hospital, and the health department is now considering necessary steps to address the situation.
