ANF Seizes 962 Kg of Drugs Worth 28.8 Billion PKR in Joint Navy Operation
The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 962 kilograms of hashish and crystal, worth 28.8 billion PKR, during a joint anti-narcotics operation conducted in open waters with the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA).
According to an ANF spokesperson, the operation, which took place this year, was one of the largest drug seizures in open seas. The operation resulted in the seizure of 871 kilograms of hashish and 91 kilograms of crystal.
The operation was carried out in the northern Arabian Sea, where two suspicious speedboats were found to be involved in the movement of a large drug shipment. During the search, the speedboats were stopped, but the smugglers aboard the drug-laden boat jumped into the sea to evade arrest, and attempted to escape on another speedboat.
The ANF spokesperson further explained that drug smugglers typically choose times when multiple vessels are operating in the sea to avoid detection. On several occasions, smugglers have also set fire to their boats to destroy evidence and prevent capture.
The primary target of drug smuggling via speedboats is the larger mother ships in the sea, which are used as platforms to transport drugs. The speedboats then deliver the drugs to these mother ships before the international smuggling process begins. However, in this case, the speedboats were intercepted before reaching the larger vessels.
The ANF, in collaboration with the Pakistan Navy and PMSA, will continue its coordinated anti-narcotics operations in the seas.
