MTN Partners with LEO Satellites to Expand Internet Access in Rural Africa

Johannesburg – MTN Group, Africa’s largest mobile operator, is exploring partnerships with low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite providers to expand internet connectivity in rural and remote areas, CEO Ralph Mupita announced on Monday.

With the rise of satellite internet services like Starlink, operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, LEO satellites are emerging as a viable solution for providing high-speed internet in regions where traditional infrastructure like fibre and mobile broadband is difficult and costly to deploy. MTN aims to bring reliable connectivity to underserved communities across Africa.
