Dollar Gains Against Yen as BOJ Delays Clarity on Interest Rate Hike Timing

SYDNEY– The U.S. dollar edged higher against the Japanese yen on Monday after comments from Japan’s central bank governor, Kazuo Ueda, hinted at further policy tightening but left the timing of any interest rate hike unclear.

Ueda reaffirmed that the Bank of Japan (BOJ) would gradually raise interest rates if the economy followed the central bank’s expected trajectory. However, he did not specify whether the next hike would occur in December, citing the need to assess various risks, including those related to the U.S. economy. (Reuters)
