Macron Says Russian Strikes on Ukraine Prove Putin “Does Not Want Peace”
BUENOS AIRES, Nov 17 – French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the latest Russian airstrikes on Ukraine demonstrate that Russian President Vladimir Putin “does not want peace and is not ready to negotiate.” Macron made the remarks on Sunday as he prepared to leave Argentina for the G20 Summit in Brazil.
The French leader emphasized that France’s priority remains to “equip, support, and help Ukraine to resist” Russian aggression. He declined to comment on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s recent call with Putin, but reiterated that Ukraine’s allies must remain united in their support for the country. Macron underscored that any genuine peace must not involve Ukraine’s surrender, framing it as essential for preserving Ukrainian sovereignty.
The comments came amid continued Russian military offensives in Ukraine, which have intensified global calls for diplomatic solutions, though peace talks have made little progress.
