G7 Reaffirms Commitment to Sanctioning Russia Over Ukraine War
ROME, Nov 16 – The Group of Seven (G7) leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to imposing severe economic penalties on Russia for its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, vowing to continue applying sanctions, export controls, and other measures. The G7 also promised to support Ukraine for as long as necessary.
In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the G7 nations, which include the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and Britain, declared that Russia “remains the sole obstacle to just and lasting peace.” The statement was adopted ahead of the “thousandth day of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”
Under Italy’s 2024 G7 presidency, the statement emphasized that the G7 nations are united in their resolve to hold Russia accountable. “We stand united with Ukraine,” the statement concluded, reinforcing the group’s commitment to continued pressure on Russia through a range of economic and diplomatic measures.(Reuters)
