Fire in Uttar Pradesh Hospital Kills 10 Newborns, 16 Injured
A fire broke out in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India, killing 10 newborn babies and injuring 16 others. The incident occurred in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for newborns at a hospital in Jhansi city.
According to reports, the fire started late last night in the ICU where 54 babies were being treated. District Magistrate (DM) Avinash Kumar confirmed the death of 10 newborns and stated that efforts are ongoing to save the 16 babies who were severely injured in the fire. Out of the 54 babies in the ICU at the time, 44 have been rescued, but the condition of the 16 remaining babies is critical.
Media reports also mentioned that the identities of 7 of the 10 deceased babies have been confirmed, while DNA tests may be conducted to identify the remaining victims.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh suggested that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit in the oxygen supply unit of the ICU, though investigations are still ongoing to confirm the exact cause.
