UN: Israel Allows Only a Quarter of Gaza Evacuations Needed for Wounded

New York, United Nations – The United Nations has reported that Israel has permitted only a fraction of the necessary medical evacuations from Gaza, allowing just a quarter of the 21,000 patients in need of urgent care to be evacuated since October 2023. This has raised significant concerns about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

At a press conference, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that on Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners were able to support the evacuation of eight children and six companions from Gaza to Jordan. The patients are expected to be sent to the US for specialized medical treatment.

The UN reiterated its call for the establishment of evacuation corridors, urging that all possible routes be utilized to ensure the safe and timely passage of patients who require specialized care. The UN has expressed deep concern over the limited evacuations, calling for more efforts to ensure those in need of medical attention can access the care they require amid the ongoing conflict.
