YouTube Launches “Jewels” Feature to Help Creators Earn from Live Streams

YouTube has introduced a new way for users to earn money, especially for those who enjoy live streaming. The platform has launched a feature called Jewels that allows content creators to make money through vertical live streams.

Jewels is a digital currency that viewers can send as “gifts” to their favorite creators. These gifts will appear as animated icons on the live stream screen. This feature is similar to TikTok Live, where users purchase coins and send them as gifts to creators.

According to YouTube, when viewers send gifts using Jewels, creators will receive Rubies—one Ruby is equivalent to one cent in USD. So, for every 100 Rubies, a creator will earn one dollar. Additionally, for the next three months, eligible creators will receive a 50% bonus on the earnings generated from Jewels.

However, there are a few conditions: creators will only be able to receive gifts when they stream vertically, and viewers will only be able to send Jewels via the mobile app. This feature will be available to creators who are part of the YouTube Partner Program.

Currently, this feature is being rolled out for users in the United States, with plans to expand to other countries in the coming months.
