Lahore High Court Urges Punjab Government to Develop 10-Year Policy on Smog Control
In a case regarding the mitigation of smog, Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court addressed the Advocate General of Punjab, emphasizing the need for a long-term policy to combat smog. He suggested that a minimum 10-year policy should be developed once the Chief Minister of Punjab returns. Justice Karim also recommended planting specific trees that help conserve groundwater and making it mandatory for 10-marla houses to install water treatment plants.
During the hearing, the Advocate General informed the court that a budget had been allocated for running electric buses in Punjab, a move that the court appreciated. Khalid Ishaq further mentioned that these electric buses are expected to be on the roads by June next year. Additionally, he noted that the government is taking measures for food security, addressing flood situations, and conserving rainwater.
