Trump Transition Team Plans Major Shakeup at Pentagon
Washington, Nov 13 (Reuters) – Members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team are reportedly preparing a list of military officers to be removed from their posts, with potential targets including top Pentagon leaders such as the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This move would mark an unprecedented shakeup at the Department of Defense, according to two sources familiar with the transition planning.
The effort is still in the early stages following Trump’s election victory on November 5, and the list of potential firings could change as his administration takes shape, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
One of the sources raised doubts about the practicality of a mass firing at the Pentagon, and it remains uncertain whether Trump himself would approve the plan. However, the president-elect has previously expressed frustration with defense leaders who have criticized him, and during his campaign, he called for the removal of “woke” generals and those responsible for the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment on the reported plan.
