UN Accuses Israel of Using Starvation as a Weapon in Gaza Conflict
The United Nations has condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing the country of using starvation as a method of war in a report released Thursday. The UN Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices stated that Israel’s actions in Gaza are consistent with genocide, pointing to deliberate deprivation of essential supplies such as food, water, and fuel for Palestinians.
The committee claims Israel’s policies, which include the systematic blocking of humanitarian aid and the disruption of life-saving resources, have created conditions that threaten the survival of Gaza’s civilian population. According to the UN, these actions are being used to gain political and military advantages.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, the Gaza Ministry of Health reports that at least 43,736 Palestinians have been killed and over 103,000 wounded as a result of Israeli airstrikes and military operations. The committee’s report highlights these figures as evidence of the grave humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
The UN’s accusations are part of growing international criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza, as the humanitarian situation continues to worsen. The Israeli government has not responded directly to the UN’s claims, but the war has sparked widespread global calls for a ceasefire and renewed efforts toward peace negotiations.
