Spain Prepares for More Heavy Rain and Floods

Spain Faces Another Stormy Week as Heavy Rain and Floods Loom

Spain is on high alert once again as heavy rains and storms are expected to hit parts of the country, just two weeks after devastating floods claimed over 200 lives and caused widespread damage. The Spanish weather agency AEMET has issued red weather alerts for Tarragona and Malaga provinces, forecasting up to 180mm (7.1 inches) of rain in a 12-hour period. This could trigger river overflows and flash floods, posing a serious risk to residents.

In response, emergency services in Malaga have evacuated 3,000 people from flood-prone areas near the Guadalhorce River, urging residents to move to higher ground. The heavy rain is expected to impact other regions as well, with orange alerts issued for Granada and Valencia’s coastal areas, where rainfall of 40-120mm is predicted by Thursday.

Strong winds of up to 74 mph (119 km/h) are also expected to affect coastal areas, including Tarragona, Barcelona, and Murcia. Authorities are warning residents to stay vigilant and take precautions to ensure their safety.

As the storms approach, local officials are closely monitoring conditions and preparing for possible evacuations, urging everyone to stay informed about the latest updates from weather services.
