Pakistan Blocks Over 100,000 Harmful Websites, Starts Blocking Unregistered VPNs
ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked over 100,000 websites spreading blasphemous content and more than 844,000 sites with obscene material.
In a separate move, the government has begun blocking unregistered Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) as part of a firewall trial. These VPNs are considered a security risk because they can potentially be used to access sensitive information.
The PTA has temporarily blocked unregistered VPNs for further review and white-listing. Authorities have urged businesses to ensure their VPNs are registered to avoid service disruptions.
