Beijing Urges Pakistan to Allow Chinese Security Personnel to Protect Nationals

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12( Reuters) — China is pressing Pakistan to allow its own security personnel to protect thousands of Chinese nationals working in the country, according to sources familiar with the talks. The push comes after a car bombing in Karachi last month, which killed two Chinese engineers. The bombing is seen as a significant security breach affecting China’s interests in Pakistan.

The attack, which occurred at the city’s airport, targeted the engineers returning to work after a holiday in Thailand. This bombing is the latest in a series of attacks on Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan, prompting Beijing to seek increased control over the security of its nationals.
