Pakistan Ministry Pushes PTA to Block Offensive Online Content

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 — The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take stronger action against blasphemous content on social media platforms. In a letter to the PTA, the Ministry expressed concern that despite efforts to block such material, pornographic and blasphemous content remains easily accessible online.

The letter highlighted that although the PTA has made efforts to comply with Supreme Court orders to block inappropriate content, these materials continue to be accessible, violating Pakistan’s cultural and religious values. The Ministry stressed that the availability of such content undermines efforts to protect citizens, particularly young people, from harmful material.

Given the sensitive nature of the issue, the Ministry urged the PTA to take immediate and comprehensive action to block access to pornographic, blasphemous, and other harmful online content, and enforce content regulations more effectively.

The PTA has yet to respond to the Ministry’s request for further action.
