NADRA Chairman Admits 2.7 Million Citizens’ Data Stolen
ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 — In a briefing to the National Assembly’s Interior Committee, NADRA Chairman Lieutenant General Munir Afzal revealed that 2.7 million citizens’ records were stolen from NADRA’s system.
He also admitted to several issues within NADRA, including key appointments made without proper advertising and officials completing their degrees after being appointed.
Regarding the data theft, the chairman confirmed that an inquiry is underway to prevent future security breaches.
Tensions rose during the meeting when Agha Rafiullah questioned the Special Secretary for Interior’s attempt to quickly end the discussion. Rafiullah insisted that no government bills should be passed until the issue of identity cards for Bihari nationals was resolved.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, another committee member, supported Rafiullah’s position, stressing the need to resolve the Bihari community’s ID card issue soon.
The meeting highlighted ongoing concerns about NADRA’s handling of citizens’ data and the urgent need for solutions to these issues.
