11 Kuki Militants Killed in Manipur Police Clash, Curfew Imposed
November 11, 2024: In Manipur’s Jeribam district, 11 suspected Kuki militants were killed in a police shootout on Monday. The incident has led to a curfew being imposed in the area to maintain order.
Police say the militants attacked a police station from two directions, with nearby refugee camps housing people from a rival tribe. The attackers reportedly tried to target the camp, but police were able to protect the refugees.
The clash resulted in the deaths of 11 militants, while one police officer was injured. Police recovered weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and assault rifles.
Tensions have been high in Manipur since violent clashes broke out in May 2023 between two tribes over a controversial government policy. Over 1,000 people have died in the unrest, and several political and government buildings have been destroyed.
