Lahore and Multan Top List of World’s Most Polluted Cities
LAHORE (November 10, 2024) – Lahore and Multan have become the world’s most polluted cities due to heavy smog and poor air quality. As a result, several major motorways in Punjab have been closed for safety reasons.
The M2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin, the Lahore-Sialkot motorway, and the M4 and M5 motorways (from Faisalabad to Multan and Multan to Sukkur) are all shut down because of dense fog and smog.
In Gojra, a tragic accident occurred when a tractor-trailer hit a motorcycle, killing a mother and her two children.
Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said the smog has become a serious issue not just for one city or province, but for all of Pakistan and the region. She urged people to stay cautious.
The United Arab Emirates has offered help to reduce smog’s effects, including sending planes for cloud seeding, which has helped bring artificial rain to some areas of Punjab.
Authorities are advising the public to limit outdoor activities and take precautions to avoid health risks from the severe pollution.
