Israel to Evacuate Soccer Fans from Amsterdam After Antisemitic Attacks
Amsterdam, Nov 8, 2024 (Reuters) — In response to a series of apparent antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam, Israel has sent two planes to evacuate fans of an Israeli soccer team from the Netherlands. The decision comes after violent street clashes overnight, with videos circulating on social media showing riot police intervening as attackers reportedly shouted anti-Israeli slurs.
The attacks, which took place in the wake of a soccer match involving Israeli fans, have been condemned by both Dutch authorities and Israeli officials, who described the incidents as antisemitic. Israeli authorities have organized the evacuation to ensure the safety of the fans, who were in the city to support their team.
Dutch police have increased their presence in Amsterdam following the incidents, and investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the attacks.
The evacuation is set to take place on Friday, with two planes scheduled to bring the Israeli fans back home.
